Educational Q&A

The verse underscores the overwhelming power of Time (kāla) at the end of an age: social order collapses, people abandon their homes seeking safety, and familial bonds surface as cries of grief—highlighting impermanence and the fragility of worldly security.

Mārkaṇḍeya describes a yugānta scenario: widespread flight and wandering as people seek refuge, calling out in anguish for lost family members, culminating in a simultaneous, terrifying destruction affecting all communities.
