A righteous ruler should seek guidance from realized sages about the future course of society and the ethical demands of changing times; governance is grounded in foresight, humility, and dharma rather than mere power.
In the forest narrative frame, Yudhiṣṭhira approaches the sage Mārkaṇḍeya again and asks about the world’s future trajectory as it relates to his rule—setting up a discourse on coming ages (notably Kali-yuga) and related themes.
