नौस्थश्न मां प्रतीक्षेथास्ततो मुनिजनप्रिय । आगमिष्याम्यहं शुद्भी विज्ञेयस्तेन तापस,“मुनिजनोंके प्रेमी तपस्वी नरेश! उस नावमें बैठे रहकर आप मेरी प्रतीक्षा कीजियेगा। मैं आपके पास अपने मस्तकमें सींग धारण किये आऊँगा। उसीसे आप मुझे पहचान लेंगे। इस प्रकार यह सब कार्य आपको करना है। अब मैं आपसे आज्ञा चाहता हूँ और यहाँसे जाता हूँ। उस महान् जलराशिको आपलोग मेरी सहायताके बिना पार नहीं कर सकेंगे
nausthaś ca māṃ pratīkṣethās tato munijanapriya | āgamiṣyāmy ahaṃ śṛṅgī vijñeyas tena tāpasa ||
Disse Mārkaṇḍeya: “Ó rei asceta, querido dos sábios, permanece sentado no barco e espera por mim. Voltarei trazendo um chifre sobre a cabeça; por esse sinal me reconhecerás. Faz exatamente assim. Agora peço licença e parto daqui—pois, sem a minha ajuda, não podereis atravessar esta vasta extensão de águas.”
