Nārāyaṇopadeśa to Mārkaṇḍeya (Cosmic Self-Identification and Yuga Doctrine) | नारायणोपदेशः
सरस्वत्युवाच त॑ वै परं वेदविदः प्रपन्ना: परं परेभ्य: प्रथितं पुराणम् । स्वाध्यायवन्तो व्रतपुण्ययोगै- स्तपोधना वीतशोका विमुक्ता:,सरस्वती बोली--स्वाध्यायरूप योगमें लगे हुए तथा तपको ही धन माननेवाले योगी व्रत-पुण्य और योगके साधनोंसे जिस प्रख्यात, परात्पर एवं पुरातन पदको प्राप्तकर शोकरहित तथा मुक्त हो जाते हैं, वही सनातन ब्रह्मपद है। वेदवेत्ता उसी परमपदका आश्रय लेते हैं
Sarasvaty uvāca: taṁ vai paraṁ vedavidaḥ prapannāḥ paraṁ parebhyaḥ prathitaṁ purāṇam | svādhyāyavanto vratapuṇyayogais tapodhanā vītaśokā vimuktāḥ ||
Sarasvatī disse: “Esse estado supremo — antigo e amplamente celebrado, mais alto do que aquilo que é apenas chamado ‘mais alto’ — é, de fato, o refúgio buscado pelos conhecedores do Veda. Os que se dedicam ao autoestudo (svādhyāya), que têm a austeridade por verdadeira riqueza e se disciplinam por votos, mérito e prática ióguica, alcançam esse célebre fim supremo; ao alcançá-lo, ficam livres do pesar e libertos.”
ताक्ष्य उवाच
The verse teaches that the highest, ancient goal (the supreme state associated with liberation) is attained through disciplined spiritual life—self-study (svādhyāya), vows and ethical observances (vrata), accumulation of merit through right conduct (puṇya), and yogic practice—culminating in freedom from grief and liberation.
