एवमुक्त: स भगवान् मार्कण्डेयो महातपा: । उवाच सुमहातेजा: सर्वशास्त्रविशारद:,उनके ऐसा कहनेपर महातपस्वी, महान् तेजस्वी और सम्पूर्ण शास्त्रोंके निपुण विद्वान् भगवान् मार्कण्डेयने इस प्रकार कहा
evam uktaḥ sa bhagavān mārkaṇḍeyo mahātapāḥ | uvāca sumahātejāḥ sarvaśāstraviśāradaḥ ||
Assim interpelado, o venerável sábio Mārkaṇḍeya—de grande austeridade, radiante poder espiritual e mestre de todas as disciplinas sagradas—respondeu deste modo.
