Approach to Śveta Mountain and Kailāsa; Lomāśa’s Warnings and Protective Instructions
The verse highlights the ethical-spiritual value of tīrthas: places characterized by purity (virajasa) and sustained sacred practice (the ever-kindled fire). It implies that serenity, restraint from passion, and continual reverence support dharmic life and generate puṇya.
During the Pāṇḍavas’ pilgrimage in the forest, the sage Lomaśa points out a sacred site associated with the Gaṅgā’s sevenfold manifestation and an ever-burning sacred fire, guiding the listener (addressed as Bharatarṣabha) through holy geography and its merits.
