The Slaying of Bharadvāja’s Son and the Sage’s Lament
शूद्र बवाच रैभ्यं यातो नूनमयं पुत्रस्ते मन्दचेतन: । तथा हि निहत: शेते राक्षसेन बलीयसा,शूद्र बोला--भगवन्! अवश्य ही आपका यह मन्दमति पुत्र रैभ्यके यहाँ गया था। उसीका यह फल है कि एक महाबली राक्षसके द्वारा मारा जाकर पृथ्वीपर पड़ा है
Śūdra uvāca—Raibhyaṁ yāto nūnam ayaṁ putras te mandacetanaḥ | tathā hi nihataḥ śete rākṣasena balīyasā ||
O Śūdra disse: “Senhor, certamente teu filho, de entendimento obtuso, foi a Raibhya. Eis a consequência: jaz aqui, morto, abatido por um rākṣasa mais poderoso.”
लोगश उवाच
The verse underscores moral causality: unwise or misguided choices lead to tangible consequences, here framed as a fatal outcome brought about by a stronger hostile force.
A Śūdra reports that the listener’s son had gone to Raibhya, and points to the result: the son is now lying dead, killed by a powerful rākṣasa.
