The verse foregrounds dvija-dharma in the forest setting: disciplined svādhyāya (Vedic recitation) and readiness for yajña through carrying samit. Ethical emphasis lies on steady daily duty (nitya-karma) as the foundation of a righteous life.
Lomaśa begins a new episode by describing Bharadvāja’s routine. After finishing his Vedic recitation, Bharadvāja gathers a bundle of fuel-sticks for the sacred fire and returns into his hermitage, setting the scene for the events that follow in the chapter.
