Aṣṭāvakra’s Entry and the Opening of the Brahmodya
तस्या गर्भ: समभवदग्निकल्प: सो<धीयानं पितरं चाप्युवाच । सर्वा रात्रिमध्ययनं करोषि नेदं पितः सम्यगिवोपवर्तते,< कुछ कालके बाद सुजाता गर्भवती हुई, उसका वह गर्भ अग्निके समान तेजस्वी था। एक दिन स्वाध्यायमें लगे हुए अपने पिता कहोड मुनिसे उस गर्भस्थ बालकने कहा, “पिताजी! आप रातभर वेदपाठ करते हैं तो भी आपका वह अध्ययन अच्छी प्रकारसे शुद्ध उच्चारणपूर्वक नहीं हो पाता”
tasyā garbhaḥ samabhavad agnikalpaḥ so ’dhīyānaṃ pitaraṃ cāpy uvāca | sarvā rātrim adhyayanaṃ karoṣi nedaṃ pitaḥ samyag ivopavartate ||
Com o tempo, ela concebeu, e a criança em seu ventre era radiante como o fogo. Enquanto seu pai estava entregue à recitação, o filho ainda não nascido lhe falou: “Pai, embora estudes durante toda a noite, tua recitação não parece prosseguir corretamente, com a devida precisão de pronúncia.”
लोगश उवाच
The verse underscores that sacred learning demands precision: mere effort or long hours of study are insufficient if pronunciation and correctness are lacking. It also suggests that commitment to truth and right practice can require speaking up even across conventional boundaries of age and authority.
Sujātā becomes pregnant with a child described as fire-like in brilliance. While Kahoḍa Muni is reciting/studying, the unborn child speaks from the womb, pointing out that the father’s Vedic recitation is not being performed correctly.
