Somaka–Jantu Exemplar: The Quest for a Hundred Sons
The verse affirms continuity of life through rebirth and suggests that karmic destiny can restore what is lost, while auspicious signs (lakṣaṇa) are used in the epic to indicate divine or fated favor.
Somaka foretells that the same being (the lost child) will be reborn in that very woman as the listener’s son, and that the child will bear a distinctive golden auspicious mark on his right side.
