Chapter 125
सुकन्याया: पितुश्नास्य लोके कीर्ति: प्रथेदिति । अतो मयैतद् विहितं तव वीर्यप्रकाशनम्
sukanyāyāḥ pituḥ nāsya loke kīrtiḥ prathed iti | ato mayaitad vihitaṃ tava vīrya-prakāśanam ||
Lomaśa disse: “Para que o pai de Sukanyā alcance renome no mundo, eu dispus isto—isto é, a manifestação pública da tua força. Assim, mérito e fama se acumulam por meio de um feito que revela o verdadeiro poder em favor de um propósito digno.”
लोगमश उवाच
Fame and social honor are presented as outcomes of purposeful action: strength should be revealed not for vanity, but to support a worthy end—here, securing good repute for Sukanyā’s father. The verse highlights intention (iti, ataḥ) as ethically significant in judging an act.
Lomaśa explains his motive for arranging an event that will display the listener’s prowess. The stated aim is that Sukanyā’s father will become renowned in the world through this orchestrated demonstration of valor.
