Cyavana’s Sacrifice and the Aśvins’ Soma Dispute
ऋषिणा सत्कृतस्तेन सभार्य: पृथिवीपति: । उपोपविष्ट: कल्याणी: कथाश्षक्रे मनोरमा:,च्यवन और सुकनन््याको देवकुमारोंके समान सुखी देखकर पत्नीसहित शर्यातिको महान् हर्ष हुआ, मानो उन्हें सम्पूर्ण पृथ्वीका राज्य मिल गया हो। च्यवन ऋषिने रानियोंसहित राजाका बड़ा आदर-सत्कार किया और उनके पास बैठकर मनको प्रिय लगनेवाली कल्याणमयी कथाएँ सुनायीं
ṛṣiṇā satkṛtas tena sabhāryaḥ pṛthivīpatiḥ | upopaviṣṭaḥ kalyāṇīḥ kathāḥ śakre manoramāḥ ||
Assim honrado pelo sábio, o rei—senhor da terra—sentou-se junto de sua esposa. Então o asceta lhe narrou histórias auspiciosas, deleitosas ao coração. Ao ver Cyavana e Sukanyā vivendo felizes como jovens divinos, o rei Śaryāti encheu-se de grande júbilo, como se tivesse alcançado a soberania sobre toda a terra; e Cyavana, após receber com respeito o rei e suas rainhas, sentou-se perto dele e conversou em palavras sãs, benfazejas e agradáveis ao espírito.
लोगश उवाच
The verse highlights dharma through satkāra (respectful hospitality) and kalyāṇa-vākya (beneficial, pleasing speech): a king prospers in merit and harmony when he honors sages properly and engages in wholesome discourse rather than pride or coercion.
King Śaryāti, accompanied by his wife (and in the broader narration, his queens), is respectfully received by the sage Cyavana. The king sits near him, and Cyavana speaks auspicious, delightful stories; the king feels great joy on seeing Cyavana and Sukanyā living happily.
