The verse highlights how righteous protection can demand overwhelming force: when a predatory threat arises, the defender may be compelled into a fierce contest. The Indra–Vṛtra comparison frames the fight as archetypal—order confronting a destructive power—while still reminding the reader that violence, once unleashed, becomes terrifying and must be governed by purpose.
A rākṣasa narrator describes the moment when Bhīma and the rākṣasa Hiḍimba engage in a roaring, intense battle. Both are portrayed as highly skilled in weapons, and the combat is likened to Indra’s famed struggle with Vṛtra, emphasizing its scale and ferocity.
