उद्योगपर्व — अध्याय ८१: कृष्णस्य दूतप्रयाणम्
Udyoga Parva, Chapter 81: Krishna Sets Out as Envoy
यत्र मां भगवान् राजा श्वशुरो वाक्यमब्रवीत् । वरं वृणीष्व पाज्चालि वराहासि मता मम
yatra māṁ bhagavān rājā śvaśuro vākyam abravīt | varaṁ vṛṇīṣva pāñcāli varāhāsi matā mama ||
Disse Vaiśampāyana: Naquela assembleia, meu venerável sogro, o rei, falou-me: “Ó Pāñcālī, escolhe um dom. A meu ver, és digna de receber o dom que desejares.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A ruler’s promise—especially a publicly offered boon—carries moral force. The verse highlights the dharmic expectation that honorific speech and pledged generosity should be sincere and fulfilled, reflecting the ethical responsibility attached to power and status.
In the court/assembly setting, Dhṛtarāṣṭra addresses Pāñcālī (Draupadī) respectfully and invites her to choose a boon, declaring her worthy of receiving what she asks. Vaiśampāyana narrates this as part of the unfolding courtly and political events in Udyoga Parva.
