कुरुनन्दन! तुम्हारे लिये मैंने श्रीकृष्णको बाध्य करके कहा था कि हमारे साथ दोनों पक्षोंका समानरूपसे सम्बन्ध है। राजन! मैंने वह बात बार-बार दुहरायी, परंतु श्रीकृष्णको जँची नहीं और मैं श्रीकृष्ण-को छोड़कर एक क्षण भी अन्यत्र कहीं ठहर नहीं सकता ।। नाहं सहाय: पार्थस्य नापि दुर्योधनस्य वै | इति मे निश्चिता बुद्धिर्वासुदेवमवेक्ष्य ह,अतः मैं श्रीकृष्णकी ओर देखकर मन-ही-मन इस निश्चयपर पहुँचा हूँ कि मैं न तो अर्जुनकी सहायता करूँगा और न दुर्योधनकी ही
kuru-nandana! tubhāre liye mayā śrīkṛṣṇaṃ bādhya kṛtvā uktaṃ yat asmābhiḥ saha ubhayoḥ pakṣayoḥ samāna-rūpeṇa sambandhaḥ asti. rājan! mayā sā bāt punaḥ punaḥ uktā, kintu śrīkṛṣṇasya na rocate, ahaṃ ca śrīkṛṣṇaṃ vihāya kṣaṇam api anyatra kvacid sthātuṃ na śaknomi. na ahaṃ sahāyaḥ pārthasya, na api duryodhanasya vai; iti me niścitā buddhiḥ vāsudevam avekṣya ha.
Ó alegria dos Kurus! Por tua causa cheguei a constranger Śrī Kṛṣṇa e disse: «Ambos os lados têm igual parentesco conosco». Ó rei, repeti isso muitas vezes; contudo, não agradou a Kṛṣṇa, e eu não posso permanecer em lugar algum, nem por um instante, separado dele. Por isso, fitando Vāsudeva, cheguei intimamente a esta firme decisão: não ajudarei nem Pārtha (Arjuna) nem Duryodhana.
बलदेव उवाच
Baladeva models an ethical stance of restraint: even when kinship ties pull in multiple directions, one may choose principled non-alignment rather than partiality, while remaining devoted to a higher guiding presence (here, Kṛṣṇa/Vāsudeva).
In the lead-up to war, Baladeva explains that he tried to persuade Kṛṣṇa to treat both factions as equally related, but Kṛṣṇa did not accept that framing; unable to separate from Kṛṣṇa, Baladeva resolves to support neither Arjuna’s side nor Duryodhana’s.
