Drupada’s Counsel on Conciliation and Alliance Mobilization
न तु वाच्यो मृदुवचो धार्तराष्ट्र: कथंचन । न हि मार्दवसाध्योडसौ पापबुद्धिर्मतो मम
na tu vācyo mṛduvaco dhārtarāṣṭraḥ kathaṃcana | na hi mārdava-sādhyo 'sau pāpa-buddhir mato mama ||
Drupada disse: “O filho de Dhṛtarāṣṭra não deve, de modo algum, ser abordado com palavras brandas e conciliatórias. No meu julgamento, sua mente está voltada para o mal, e ele não é homem que se conquiste pela gentileza.”

When a person is judged to be driven by wrongful intent and resistant to reform, mere soft persuasion is ineffective; one must speak with clarity and firmness rather than flattering gentleness.
In the Udyoga Parva’s pre-war negotiations, Drupada gives advice about how to address the Kaurava side. He specifically warns that Duryodhana (the Dhārtarāṣṭra) should not be approached with sweet, conciliatory words because, in Drupada’s assessment, he is not amenable to mildness.
