हंस–साध्यसंवादः, वाक्-निग्रहः, महाकुल-लक्षणम्, शान्ति-उपायः

द्यूतमेतत्‌ पुराकल्पे दृष्टं वैरकरं नृणाम्‌ । तस्माद्‌ द्यूतं न सेवेत हास्यार्थमपि बुद्धिमान्‌,पूर्वकालमें जूआ खेलना मनुष्योंमें वैर डालनेका कारण देखा गया है; अतः बुद्धिमान्‌ मनुष्य हँसीके लिये भी जूआ न खेले

dyūtam etat purākalpe dṛṣṭaṁ vairakaraṁ nṛṇām | tasmād dyūtaṁ na seveta hāsyārtham api buddhimān ||

Disse Vidura: “Desde tempos antigos, este jogo de azar é visto como gerador de inimizade entre os homens. Por isso, o sábio não deve recorrer ao jogo—nem mesmo por divertimento.”
