ततः सूतो मम सुहृच्छरवर्षेण ताडित: । अपयातो रथोपस्थान्मनो मम विषादयन्,उस समय मेरा प्रिय सुहद् सारथि बाणवर्षासे पीड़ित हो मेरे मनको विषादमें डालता हुआ रथकी बैठकसे नीचे गिर गया
tataḥ sūto mama suhṛccharavarṣeṇa tāḍitaḥ | apayāto rathopasthān mano mama viṣādayan |
Então meu cocheiro—meu querido bem-querente—atingido e oprimido por uma chuva de flechas, tombou do assento do carro, lançando meu espírito na tristeza.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights the human cost of warfare: even righteous duty in a martial context brings unavoidable suffering, and attachment to loyal companions intensifies grief. It implicitly urges steadiness of mind and ethical reflection amid violence.
Bhīṣma describes a moment in battle where his charioteer, a trusted well-wisher, is hit by a heavy volley of arrows and falls from the chariot-seat, leaving Bhīṣma distressed.
