भीष्म–जामदग्न्यसंवादः (Amba-prasaṅga and Kurukṣetra Dvandva Declaration) / Bhishma–Jamadagnya Dialogue
तस्याहं निशितं भल्ल्लं चिक्षेप भरतर्षभ । तेनास्य धनुष: कोटिं छित्त्वा भूमावपातयम्
tasyāhaṃ niśitaṃ bhallaṃ cikṣepa bharatarṣabha | tenāsya dhanuṣaḥ koṭiṃ chittvā bhūmāv apātayam ||
Então, ó touro entre os Bhāratas, arremessei contra ele uma flecha bhalla, aguda e cortante. Com ela decepei a ponta do seu arco e a fiz cair ao chão — um ato destinado a inutilizar sua arma, e não a abatê-lo, mostrando força contida dentro das exigências do combate.
राम उवाच
The verse highlights disciplined power in conflict: instead of aiming to kill, the speaker disables the opponent’s weapon by cutting the bow’s tip, suggesting restraint and tactical ethics within the harsh setting of battle.
Rama narrates that he shoots a sharp bhalla-arrow at his opponent and, with that shot, slices off the end of the opponent’s bow so it drops to the ground, effectively disarming him.
