Educational Q&A

The verse underscores moral causality and responsibility: present conflicts are traced to earlier words and deeds. By recounting how he previously addressed Paraśurāma and the old actions of the Kāśī princess, Bhīṣma frames events as consequences unfolding from prior conduct, a key Mahābhārata lens on dharma and accountability.

Bhīṣma is concluding a recap to the king (Dhṛtarāṣṭra) about the background of the Bhīṣma–Paraśurāma confrontation and the earlier conduct of the Kāśī king’s daughter (Amba). He states that he has already narrated both what he said to Paraśurāma and Amba’s former deeds.
