एतेन युद्धम भवत्‌ पुरा गाण्डीवधन्वन: । दिवसान्‌ सुबहून्‌ राजन्नुभयोर्जयगृद्धिनो:,राजन्‌! पहले इनके साथ गाण्डीवधारी अर्जुनका युद्ध हुआ था। उस संग्राममें दोनों अपनी-अपनी विजय चाहते हुए बहुत दिनोंतक लड़ते रहे

etena yuddham abhavat purā gāṇḍīvadhanvanaḥ | divasān subahūn rājann ubhayor jayagṛddhinoḥ ||

Bhīṣma disse: “Outrora, ó rei, houve uma batalha entre este e Arjuna, o portador do Gāṇḍīva. Nesse conflito, ambos os lados—cada qual ávido de vitória—lutaram por muitos dias.”
