Kuntī–Karṇa Saṃvāda: Lineage Disclosure and Appeal to Fraternal Dharma

प्रसादयितुमासाद्य दर्शयन्ती यथातथम्‌ | “इसने सदा पाण्डवोंका बड़ा भारी अनर्थ करनेके लिये हठ ठान लिया है। साथ ही कर्ण अत्यन्त बलवान्‌ भी है। यह बात इस समय मेरे हृदयको दग्ध किये देती है। अच्छा, आज मैं कर्णके मनको पाण्डवोंके प्रति प्रसन्न करनेके लिये उसके पास जाऊँगी और यथार्थ सम्बन्धका परिचय देती हुई उससे बातचीत करूँगी ।। तोषितो भगवान्‌ यत्र दुर्वासा मे वरं ददौ,“जब मैं पिताके घर रहती थी, उन्हीं दिनों अपनी सेवाओंद्वारा मैंने भगवान्‌ दुर्वासाको संतुष्ट किया और उन्होंने मुझे यह वर दिया कि मन्त्रोच्चारणपूर्वक आवाहन करनेपर मैं किसी भी देवताको अपने पास बुला सकती हूँ। मेरे पिता कुन्तिभोज मेरा बड़ा आदर करते थे। मैं राजाके अन्तःपुरमें रहकर व्यथित हृदयसे मन्त्रोंके बलाबल और ब्राह्मणकी वाक॒शक्तिके विषयमें अनेक प्रकारका विचार करने लगी

vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca | prasādayitum āsādya darśayantī yathātatham | "asne sadā pāṇḍavānāṃ baḍā bhārī anartha karne ke liye haṭh ṭhān liyā hai | sātha hī karṇa atyanta balavān bhī hai | yaha bāta isa samaya mere hṛdaya ko dagdha kiye detī hai | acchā, āja maiṃ karṇa ke mana ko pāṇḍavoṃ ke prati prasanna karne ke liye uske pāsa jāūṃgī aura yathārtha sambandha kā paricaya detī huī usse bātacīta karūṃgī || toṣito bhagavān yatra durvāsā me varaṃ dadau, "jab maiṃ pitā ke ghara rahatī thī, unhīṃ dinoṃ apnī sevāoṃ dvārā maine bhagavān durvāsā ko saṃtuṣṭa kiyā aura unhoṃne mujhe yaha vara diyā ki mantroccāraṇapūrvaka āvāhana karne para maiṃ kisī bhī devatā ko apne pāsa bulā saktī hūṃ | mere pitā kuntibhoja merā baḍā ādara karte the | maiṃ rājā ke antaḥpura meṃ rahkar vyathita hṛdaya se mantroṃ ke balābala aura brāhmaṇa kī vākśakti ke viṣaya meṃ aneka prakāra kā vicāra karne lagī"

Vaiśaṃpāyana disse: Buscando conquistá-lo e expor a verdade tal como era, ela refletiu: “Ele decidiu, com obstinação, causar grande calamidade aos Pāṇḍavas, e Karṇa, além disso, é poderosíssimo. Esse pensamento queima meu coração neste momento. Por isso, hoje irei a Karṇa, tornarei sua mente favorável aos Pāṇḍavas e falarei com ele, revelando o verdadeiro vínculo entre nós.” “Outrora, quando eu vivia na casa de meu pai, agradei o venerável sábio Durvāsā com meu serviço, e ele me concedeu uma dádiva: se eu o invocasse com a recitação correta do mantra, poderia chamar à minha presença qualquer divindade. Meu pai, Kuntibhoja, honrava-me grandemente. Mas, vivendo nos aposentos internos do rei, com o coração inquieto, passei a ponderar de muitos modos sobre o poder e o perigo dos mantras e sobre a temível eficácia da palavra de um brāhmaṇa.”
