वैशम्पायन उवाच
Moral responsibility is intensified by one’s company: aligning with wicked allies and relying on them for support reveals and reinforces adharma. The verse condemns cruelty and the deliberate intention to commit wrongdoing, emphasizing that complicity and association with sinners are themselves ethically blameworthy.
In the Udyoga Parva’s lead-up to war, the narrator Vaiśampāyana reports a sharp denunciation directed at an unnamed addressee: the person is branded cruel and deeply sinful, surrounded by base accomplices, and determined to carry out a sinful plan—highlighting the moral corruption behind the impending conflict.
