न युद्धे तात कल्याणं न धर्मार्थों कुतः सुखम्‌ । न चापि विजयो नित्यं मा युद्धे चेत आधिथा:,'तात! युद्ध करनेमें कल्याण नहीं है। उससे धर्म और अर्थकी भी प्राप्ति नहीं हो सकती, फिर सुख तो मिल ही कैसे सकता है? युद्धमें सदा विजय ही हो, यह भी निश्चित नहीं है; अत: उसमें मन न लगाओ

na yuddhe tāta kalyāṇaṃ na dharmārtho kutaḥ sukham | na cāpi vijayo nityaṃ mā yuddhe ceta ādhithāḥ ||

Vaiśampāyana disse: “Meu filho, não há verdadeiro bem na guerra. Dela, nem o dharma nem o ganho material se alcançam com segurança—como, então, poderia surgir a felicidade? E a vitória na guerra jamais é certa. Portanto, não entregues o teu coração à guerra.”
