Even in tense circumstances, one should not act improperly toward one’s own righteous and self-controlled relatives; dharma requires fitting, respectful conduct especially within kinship bonds.
Vaiśampāyana, addressing a king, frames a moral question: when one’s own relatives are known to be virtuous and devoted to dharma, it is unreasonable for any good person to treat them in an unworthy or ill-timed way—implying a critique of discordant behavior within the family.
