नारदकथितं माधव्याः तपश्चर्या–ययातेः स्वर्गविचारः | Nārada on Mādhavī’s Asceticism and the Scrutiny of Yayāti in Heaven
स तया रममाणो<थ विश्वामित्रो महाद्युति: । आत्मजं जनयामास माधवीपुत्रमष्टकम्,इस प्रकार महातेजस्वी विश्वामित्र मुनिने उसके साथ रमण करते हुए यथासमय उसके गर्भसे एक पुत्र उत्पन्न किया। माधवीके उस पुत्रका नाम अष्टक था
sa tayā ramamāṇo ’tha viśvāmitro mahādyutiḥ | ātmajaṃ janayāmāsa mādhavīputram aṣṭakam ||
Nārada disse: Então o radiante sábio Viśvāmitra, deleitando-se na união com ela, no devido tempo gerou um filho. Esse filho de Mādhavī foi chamado Aṣṭaka.
नारद उवाच
The verse underscores the dharmic importance placed on progeny and lineage in epic society: union is narrated not merely as romance but as a means to fulfill social and dynastic obligations, producing an heir who carries forward responsibility and continuity.
Nārada narrates that Viśvāmitra, after being with Mādhavī, fathers a son. The child born from Mādhavī is named Aṣṭaka, marking another stage in the account of Mādhavī’s motherhood and the generation of notable descendants.
