Vṛtra’s Cosmic Threat, Viṣṇu’s Upāya, and the Conditional Vulnerability
Udyoga-parva 10
ततो देवा: सगन्धर्वा यक्षरक्षोमहोरगा: । ऋषयश्च महेन्द्र तमस्तुवन् विविधै: स्तवै:,तदनन्तर देवता, गन्धर्व, यक्ष, राक्षस, महानाग तथा ऋषि भाँति-भाँतिके स्तोत्रोंद्वारा महेन्द्रकी स्तुति करने लगे
tato devāḥ sagandharvā yakṣarakṣomahoragāḥ | ṛṣayaś ca mahendraṃ tam astuvan vividhaiḥ stavaiḥ ||
Então os deuses—juntamente com os Gandharvas, Yakṣas, Rākṣasas, as grandes serpentes e os Ṛṣis—começaram a louvar aquele Mahendra (Indra) com hinos de muitos tipos.
शल्य उवाच
Legitimate authority that sustains order is worthy of reverence; even diverse and opposing classes of beings can unite in acknowledging the upholder of dharmic stability.
After the preceding event, many orders of beings—gods, celestial musicians, guardians, fierce beings, great serpents, and sages—collectively offer varied hymns praising Indra (Mahendra).
