Svargārohaṇa-parva Adhyāya 2 — Yudhiṣṭhira’s Inquiry for His Kin and the Vision of a Punitive Realm
करम्भवालुकास्तप्ता आयसीश्व शिला:पृथक् । लोहकुम्भी श्व॒ तैलस्य क्वाथ्यमाना: समन्ततः
karambha-vālukās taptā āyasīś ca śilāḥ pṛthak | loha-kumbhī ca tailasya kvāthyamānāḥ samantataḥ ||
Disse Vaiśampāyana: “Em alguns lugares, montes de areia misturada com papa rala (karambha) jazem em brasa; noutros, enormes lajes de ferro estão dispostas à parte. E por toda a volta, óleo é fervido em caldeirões de ferro.” A cena intensifica a atmosfera de retribuição: o caminho adiante surge como uma paisagem de calor punitivo e tormento, evocando as consequências do adharma e das faltas acumuladas.
