Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Collapse and Vyāsa’s Counsel
The verse emphasizes accountability to vows: even divine beings are bound to fulfill promises made in a formal council. Ethically, it highlights that commitments—especially those made for the world’s welfare—must be completed without delay.
Earth approaches the assembled gods and reminds them of a promise made earlier in Brahmā’s court to accomplish her intended task. After hearing her appeal, a revered figure in the divine assembly responds to Earth with a smile, indicating the gods’ engagement with her request.
