Utathya’s Instruction: Royal Dharma, Restraint of Pride, Protection of Subjects

Educational Q&A

A ruler’s security depends on responsibly meeting the rightful expectations of those who rely on him; neglect breeds fear and converts potential allies into enemies.

In the Shanti Parva’s instruction on rajadharma, Utathya warns about the political and moral consequences of a king’s failure to satisfy his people/supporters: fear arises and friendships deteriorate into hostility.
