Chapter 72 — Royal Duty: protection of subjects, taxation, punishment, and appointments
मालाकारोपमो राजन् भव मा<5<ड्रारिकोपम: । तथायुक्तश्रिरं राज्यं भोक्त शक्ष्यसि पालयन्
mālākāropamo rājan bhava māṇḍrārikopamaḥ | tathāyuktaśrīraṁ rājyaṁ bhoktuṁ śakṣyasi pālayan, yudhiṣṭhira ||
Bhīṣma disse: “Ó Rei, sê como um jardineiro, não como um fazedor de carvão. O jardineiro nutre as raízes e protege a árvore, e só então desfruta de suas flores e frutos; mas o carvoeiro destrói a árvore desde a raiz. Do mesmo modo, se sustentares e resguardares o reino e permaneceres dedicado ao bem-estar do povo, poderás desfrutar por muito tempo da prosperidade do governo, ó Yudhiṣṭhira.”
