न चैतन्नैष्ठिकं कर्म त्रयाणां भूरिदक्षिण । चतुर्णा राजशार्दूल प्राहुराश्रमवासिनाम्,पर्याप्त दक्षिणा देनेवाले राजसिंह! यह भैक्ष्यचर्या क्षत्रिय आदि तीन वर्णोके लिये नित्य या अनिवार्य कर्म नहीं है। चारों आश्रमवासियोंका कर्म उनके लिये ऐच्छिक ही बताया गया है
Translation
Bhīṣma disse: “Ó tigre entre os reis, tu que concedes abundante dakṣiṇā, esta prática de viver de esmolas não é um dever permanente nem obrigatório para as três varṇas—incluindo os kṣatriyas. E quanto aos que habitam os quatro āśramas, também se diz que tais práticas são, para eles, facultativas, conforme a inclinação.”
