न चैनमशकदू भानुरहं वा स्नेहकारणै: । पुरा प्रत्यनुनेतुं वा नेतुं वाप्यपेकतां त्वया
na cainam aśakad ū bhānur ahaṃ vā snehakāraṇaiḥ | purā pratyanunetuṃ vā netuṃ vāpy ekatāṃ tvayā ||
Vaiśampāyana disse: Nem o deus Sol, Bhānu, nem eu conseguimos, mesmo antes, conquistá-lo por apelos fundados no afeto, nem promover a unidade com vós (com o vosso lado).
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Affectionate appeals and even respected authority may fail to reconcile a determined person; ethical counsel must recognize the limits of persuasion and the gravity of choices that lead to division.
The speaker reports that neither he nor the Sun-god could previously persuade the person in question or bring about concord with the addressed party, indicating an earlier, unsuccessful attempt at preventing disunity.
