Paraśurāma’s origins and the depletion/restoration of kṣatriya lineages
तेषां पुत्राश्न पौत्राश्न येषां वंशा: प्रतिष्ठिता: । एवमेतत् पुरावृत्तं यन्मां पृष्छसि पाण्डव,उन्हींके पुत्र-पौत्र बढ़े, जिनके वंश इस समय प्रतिष्ठित हैं। पाण्डुनन्दन! तुमने जिसके विषयमें मुझसे पूछा था, वह पुरातन वृत्तान्त ऐसा ही है
teṣāṃ putrāś ca pautrāś ca yeṣāṃ vaṃśāḥ pratiṣṭhitāḥ | evam etat purāvṛttaṃ yan māṃ pṛcchasi pāṇḍava ||
Seus filhos e netos floresceram—aqueles cujas linhagens hoje se acham firmemente estabelecidas. Assim, ó Pāṇḍava, é este o antigo relato sobre o qual me perguntaste.
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse underscores the ethical weight of continuity: those who uphold order and right conduct become the ones whose families and dynasties remain stable and flourishing, and the tradition preserves their story as an instructive ‘ancient account’ (purāvṛtta).
Vāyudeva concludes a traditional story he has been recounting to the Pāṇḍava (Yudhiṣṭhira), affirming that the outcome was the flourishing of descendants in established lineages, and that the account is exactly as the listener had asked.
