The verse highlights that after proper ethical-spiritual formation (saṃskāra), one should remain steadfast in Dharma as the primary refuge, and that the glory of austere, non-exploitative livelihood (uñchavṛtti) is worthy of being preserved and transmitted to sages and kings alike.
Bhishma reports that a person, once duly initiated, lived grounded in Dharma and then conveyed the same instructive story—connected with the praise of uñchavṛtti—to the sage Cyavana, indicating the continued circulation of this moral exemplar through respected authorities.
