Atithi-satkāra and the Consolation of Wise Counsel
The verse teaches that the cosmos is upheld by a sacred, integrating principle (Brahman) expressed through the Agni–Soma polarity—often read as the harmonization of transformative fire (Agni) and nourishing essence (Soma). Ethical order (dharma) mirrors this balance: stability arises from alignment with the sustaining law, not from domination.
Within the Shanti Parva’s instruction-oriented setting, the speaker states a doctrinal point about what sustains the universe: the Brahman associated with Agni and Soma. The line functions as a compact cosmological justification for dharmic order and Vedic sacred structure.
