ततोडनध्याय इति तं व्यास: पुत्रमवारयत् | शुको वारितमात्रस्तु कौतूहलसमन्वित:,तब अनध्याय-काल बताकर व्यासजीने अपने पुत्रको वेद पढ़नेसे उस समय रोक दिया। उनके मना करनेपर शुकदेवजीके मनमें इसका कारण जाननेके लिये प्रबल उत्कण्ठा हुई
tato 'nadhyāya iti taṃ vyāsaḥ putram avārayat | śuko vāritamātras tu kautūhalasamanvitaḥ ||
Então Vyasa deteve o filho, dizendo: “Este é um tempo de anadhyāya (quando a recitação védica deve ser suspensa)”. No instante em que foi contido, Shuka encheu-se de viva curiosidade, ansioso por saber a razão dessa proibição.
