The verse evokes Agni as a direct, formidable divine presence—implying that sacred or perilous domains are guarded by cosmic power. Ethically, it points to the need for inner preparedness (discipline, purity, humility) before approaching what is protected by dharma.
Bhīṣma describes a vast, fire-encircled summit or region, emphasizing its immense scale and the fact that Agni (Pāvaka) himself stands there. The description heightens the sense of danger and sanctity surrounding that place.
