The verse instructs the disciplined practice of key dharmic virtues—truth, integrity, non-anger, non-enviousness, sense-restraint, austerity, non-violence, and compassion—as a coherent ethical foundation to be maintained correctly and consistently.
In the Shanti Parva’s instruction-oriented setting, Vyāsa delivers a concise ethical injunction, listing fundamental virtues to be observed as part of righteous living and inner governance after the upheavals of war.
