खानयामास य: कोपात्‌ पृथिवीं सागराड्किताम्‌ । यस्य नाम्ना समुद्रश्न सागरत्वमुपागत:,“एक समय क्रोधमें आकर उन्होंने समुद्रसे चिह्नित सारी पृथ्वी खुदवा डाली थी। उन्हींके नामपर समुद्रकी 'सागर' संज्ञा हो गयी

Transliteration

khānayāmāsa yaḥ kopāt pṛthivīṃ sāgarāṅkitām | yasya nāmnā samudro ’sau sāgaratvam upāgataḥ ||

Translation

Vāyu disse: “Num único ímpeto de ira, ele mandou escavar a terra inteira—terra marcada pelo oceano. E é do seu próprio nome que o mar veio a ser conhecido pela designação ‘Sāgara’.”
