पूर्वोपायोपपन्नेन मार्गण वरवर्णिनि | न मे सुरा: प्रयच्छन्ति भागं यज्ञस्य धर्मत:,सुन्दरि! पूर्वनिश्चित नियमके अनुसार धर्मकी दृष्टिसे ही देवतालोग यज्ञमें मुझे भाग नहीं अर्पित करते हैं
pūrvopāyopapannena mārgaṇa varavarṇini | na me surāḥ prayacchanti bhāgaṃ yajñasya dharmataḥ, sundari ||
Maheśvara disse: “Ó senhora de bela compleição, embora eu tenha sido buscado pelos meios corretos estabelecidos desde os tempos antigos, os deuses, apegados ao que consideram a regra do dharma, não me oferecem a parte que me é devida no sacrifício.”
महेश्वर उवाच
The verse highlights how ‘dharma’ and ritual correctness can be invoked to justify exclusion: even when one follows established means, those controlling religious distribution may deny a rightful share, revealing the ethical tension between formal propriety and substantive justice.
Maheśvara addresses a woman (varavarṇinī/sundarī) and complains that the devas, claiming adherence to dharma, do not allot him his portion of the sacrificial offering, setting up a conflict about recognition and entitlement within sacrificial order.
