अनुक्रोशादधर्म च जयेद्‌ धर्ममवेक्षया । आयत्या च जयेदाशामर्थ संगविवर्जनात्‌,अधर्मको दयासे और धर्मको विचारपूर्वक पालन करनेसे जीते। भविष्यका विचार करके आशापर और आसत्तिके त्यागसे अर्थपर विजय प्राप्त करे

anukrośād adharmaṃ ca jayed dharmam avekṣayā | āyatyā ca jayed āśām artha-saṅga-vivarjanāt ||

Bhishma disse: Pela compaixão deve-se vencer até o impulso para o adharma; e mantendo o dharma em vista, deve-se prevalecer na retidão. E, com os olhos no futuro, deve-se conquistar a esperança e a cobiça; abandonando o apego e o agarrar-se às riquezas, alcança-se domínio sobre os fins materiais.
