Kapila and Syūmaraśmi on Renunciation, Householder Support, and Epistemic Authority
nānuruddhaye niruddhye vā na dveṣmi na ca kāmaye | samo ’haṁ sarvabhūteṣu paśya me jājale vratam | tulā me sarvabhūteṣu samā tiṣṭhati jājale ||
Tulādhāra disse: “Não suplico a ninguém nem me oponho a ninguém.
The core teaching is impartiality grounded in inner discipline: one should not be driven by craving or hatred, nor by the urge to coerce or resist others; instead, one should maintain equal regard for all beings, judging and treating them by a single, fair standard (symbolized by the ‘scale’).
In the Tulādhāra–Jājali episode of the Śānti Parva, Tulādhāra instructs the ascetic Jājali on true dharma. Here he states his personal vow: he neither begs nor obstructs, neither hates nor desires, and he remains even-minded toward all beings—his ‘balance’ is level for everyone.
