Śaṅkha–Likhita Upākhyāna: Daṇḍa, Confession, and the Purification of Kingship (शङ्ख-लिखितोपाख्यानम्)
वृत्तं यस्य श्लाघनीयं मनुष्या: सन््तो विद्वांसो$र्हयन्त्यर्हणीयम् । स्वर्ग जित्वा वीरलोकानवाप्य सिद्धि प्राप्त: पुण्यकीर्तिर्महात्मा,'साधु एवं विद्वान् पुरुष उनके स्पृहणीय एवं आदरणीय चरित्रकी सदा भूरि-भूरि प्रशंसा करते हैं। पुण्यकीर्ति महामना हयग्रीवने स्वर्गलोक जीतकर वीरोंको मिलनेवाले लोकोंमें पहुँचकर उत्तम सिद्धि प्राप्त कर ली'
vṛttaṃ yasya ślāghanīyaṃ manuṣyāḥ santaḥ vidvāṃso 'rhayanty arhaṇīyam | svargaṃ jitvā vīralokān avāpya siddhiṃ prāptaḥ puṇyakīrtir mahātmā ||
Vaiśampāyana disse: “Sua conduta é digna de louvor; os virtuosos e os sábios honram continuamente o que nele é digno de honra. Tendo conquistado o céu e alcançado os mundos concedidos aos heróis, esse grande de alma—de fama santa—atingiu a mais alta realização.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
True honor arises from praiseworthy character (vṛtta). When conduct is ethically exemplary, the virtuous and learned naturally revere it; such merit is portrayed as leading to exalted posthumous attainment (svarga, vīraloka) and ‘siddhi’—a culminating fulfillment.
Vaiśaṃpāyana is describing a noble figure whose life and reputation are celebrated by good and wise people. The verse concludes that this person has ‘won heaven’ and reached the heroic realms, indicating the completion of his life’s moral and heroic trajectory with a superior final attainment.
