Inquiry into Karma, Knowledge, Fate, and Nature
समाधिर्नास्य कामार्थे नात्मानं स्तौति करहिचित् | अर्नीर्षुर्मदुसंवादस्तस्मात् सर्वत्र पूजित:
samādhir nāsya kāmārthe nātmānaṃ stauti karhicit | anīrṣur madhusaṃvādas tasmāt sarvatra pūjitaḥ ||
Sua mente não se fixa nos prazeres dos sentidos, e ele jamais se elogia. Livre de inveja para com quem quer que seja e falando palavras doces e conciliadoras, por isso é honrado em toda parte.
वायुदेव उवाच
A person becomes universally respected through inner steadiness and ethical restraint: not being absorbed in sensual pursuits, avoiding self-praise, remaining free from envy, and speaking gently and sweetly.
Vāyudeva is describing the qualities of an exemplary person, highlighting behavioral markers—detachment from pleasures, humility, non-jealousy, and courteous speech—and explaining that these virtues naturally lead to honor in society.
