The Earlier Ideal Conduct of a Brahmana

River-of-Saṃsāra Metaphor

Educational Q&A

Grief is not an effective instrument for overcoming misfortune; understanding the sovereignty of Kāla (Time) leads to steadiness and non-lamentation even amid suffering.

Bhīṣma addresses Śakra (Indra), explaining why he does not grieve: he recognizes that events are driven by Time’s power, and that lamentation provides no practical aid in removing adversity.
