Adhyāya 222 — ब्रह्मस्थानप्राप्ति: मोक्षधर्मे समत्वव्रतम्

Attaining the Brahman-Station: The Vow of Equanimity in Mokṣadharma

ममता, अहंकार तथा कामनाओंसे शून्य और सब प्रकारके बन्धनोंसे रहित हो आत्मनिष्ठ एवं असंग रहकर मैं प्राणियोंकी उत्पत्ति और विनाशको सदा देखता रहता हूँ ।। कृतप्रज्ञस्य दान्तस्य वितृष्णस्य निराशिष: । नायासो विद्यते शक्र पश्यतो लोकमव्ययम्‌,इन्द्र! मैं शुद्ध-बुद्धि तथा मन और इन्द्रियोंको अपने अधीन करके स्थित हूँ। मैं तृष्णा और कामनासे रहित हूँ और सदा अविनाशी आत्मापर ही दृष्टि रखता हूँ, इसलिये मुझे कभी कष्ट नहीं होता

kṛtaprajñasya dāntasya vitṛṣṇasya nirāśiṣaḥ | nāyāso vidyate śakra paśyato lokam avyayam ||

Disse Prahlāda: “Vazio de ‘meu’, de ego e de desejos, e livre de todos os laços, estabelecido no Si e sem apego, contemplo sempre o nascimento e a destruição dos seres. Ó Śakra (Indra), para aquele cujo entendimento é firme, que domina mente e sentidos, que está livre de sede (ânsia) e de expectativa de recompensa, e que vê a realidade imperecível subjacente ao mundo mutável, não há tensão interior nem sofrimento.”

Freedom from suffering comes from steady wisdom and inner mastery: when ego and possessiveness are abandoned, cravings and expectations cease, and one’s vision rests on the imperishable Self, the changing events of the world no longer create mental strain.

Prahlāda addresses Indra (Śakra) and describes the state of a realized, self-controlled person. He explains that such a seer, established in the Self and detached, calmly witnesses the rise and fall of beings and therefore remains untroubled.
