तदिदं ब्रह्म वाष्णेयमितिहासं शृणुष्व मे । ब्राह्मणो ब्राह्मुणै: श्राव्यो राजन्य: क्षत्रियैस्तथा

tad idaṁ brahma vārṣṇeyam itihāsaṁ śṛṇuṣva me | brāhmaṇo brāhmaṇaiḥ śrāvyo rājanyaḥ kṣatriyais tathā ||

Bhīṣma disse: “Agora ouve de mim este relato sagrado ligado à linhagem Vārṣṇeya. Um brāhmaṇa deve recitá-lo aos brāhmaṇas, e um kṣatriya (rājanya), do mesmo modo, aos kṣatriyas.”
