On the Principle of Keśava: Cosmogony and Divine Epithets
राजाप्येतेन विधिना भगवन्तं पितामहम् । यथैव द्विजशार्दूलस्तथैव प्राविशत् तदा,राजा इक्ष्वाकु भी उस श्रेष्ठ ब्राह्मणकी ही भाँति विधिपूर्वक भगवान् ब्रह्माजीके मुखारविन्दमें प्रविष्ट हो गये
bhīṣma uvāca | rājāpy etena vidhinā bhagavantaṃ pitāmaham | yathaiva dvijaśārdūlas tathaiva prāviśat tadā ||
Disse Bhīṣma: “Por este mesmo método prescrito, o rei também entrou na presença do Bem-aventurado Pitāmaha (Brahmā). Assim como o mais eminente dos brâmanes, assim fez o rei naquele momento—aproximando-se com a mesma disciplina, segundo a regra.”
भीष्य उवाच
Status does not override dharma: even a king must follow the same disciplined, scriptural procedure (vidhi) as a learned Brahmin when approaching the divine or a revered authority.
Bhishma describes how the king (identified in the traditional gloss as Ikṣvāku) approached/entered the presence of Brahmā (Pitāmaha) using the prescribed method, in the same manner as an exemplary Brahmin had done.
