Adhyāya 199: Karma–Jñāna Causality and the Nirguṇa Brahman

Manu’s Instruction

संश्रुत्य यो न दित्सेत याचित्वा यश्च नेच्छति । उभावानृतिकावेतौ न मृषा कर्तुमहसि,जो पहले देनेकी प्रतिज्ञा करके फिर देना नहीं चाहता तथा जो याचना तो करता है, किंतु मिलनेपर उसे लेना नहीं चाहता, वे दोनों ही मिथ्यावादी होते हैं; अतः आप अपनी और मेरी भी बात मिथ्या न कीजिये

saṁśrutya yo na ditsed yācitvā yaś ca necchati | ubhāv ānṛtikāv etau na mṛṣā kartum arhasi ||

Aquele que, depois de prometer, não dá, e aquele que pede mas, quando lhe é concedido, não quer aceitar — ambos são culpados de falsidade. Portanto, não tornes falsa nem a tua palavra nem a minha.
